Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 14845 (NWA 14845)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Sep

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3)

History: Purchased by Juan Poblador in September 2021 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Discrete unequilibrated, sulfide-bearing chondrules and related lithic chondrite clasts occur within a fresh, fine-grained matrix (overall ~10 vol.%) containing troilite, pentlandite and sodic plagioclase. Lithic clasts contain separated unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 550±390 µm, N = 26) and 20-25 vol.% sulfide-bearing matrix. A sub-micrometer Pt inclusion was identified in one pentlandite grain.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa34.0±8.8, range Fa22.3-43.9, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs10.6±8.8Wo1.5±1.4, range Fs3.4-20.4Wo0.4-3.1, N = 3), augite (Fs9.8±0.1Wo46.5±0.2, range Fs9.7-9.9Wo46.3-46.6, N = 2), plagioclase (Ab70.3An28.4Or1.3).

Classification: R3 chondrite breccia.

Specimens: 13.9 g including one polished mount at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Poblador.
