Northwest Africa 14271 (NWA 14271) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Apr Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-4) History: Purchased by Philip Mani in April 2021 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Discrete well-formed unequilibrated and equilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 570±230 µm, N = 23) plus Type 3 and Type 4 lithic clasts occur within a fine grained matrix (orange-brown in thin section). Accessory phases include chromite (with variable Ti contents), pyrrhotite (rarely Ni-bearing) and secondary iron hydroxides. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa35.6±9.4, range Fa18.8-41.4, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs25.0±4.8Wo0.7±0.1, range Fs19.8-29.1Wo0.6-0.7, N = 3), augite (Fs12.8±1.3Wo44.8±0.8, range Fs11.7-14.2Wo45.3-43.9, N = 3). Classification: R3-4 chondrite breccia. Specimens: 20.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. P. Mani. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
