Northwest Africa 13862 (NWA 13862)

Purchased: 2018 Nov

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-5)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in November 2018 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed of equilibrated Type 4 and Type 5 lithic clasts set in a type 3 host lithology. The type 3 lithology is made of chondrule with apparent diameter 580±390 µm, N = 23) set in a finer grained matrix (brown in thin section) containing albitic plagioclase, Fe sulfide, pentlandite and Ti-chromite.

Geochemistry: Olivine in equilibrated lithic clasts (Fa39.6±0.9, range Fa38.8-40.9, N = 4), olivine in discrete unequilibrated chondrules (Fa25.9±12.9, range Fa10.9-39.7, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.4±7.1Wo2.0±1.9, range Fs13.6-30.4Wo0.6-4.7, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs16.7Wo29.0), augite (Fs9.6±9.7Wo37.8±1.4, range Fs2.7-16.4Wo36.8-38.8, N = 2).

Classification: R3-5 chondrite breccia.

Specimens: 29.5 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
