Northwest Africa 6839 (NWA 6839) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2010 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-6) History: The meteorite was purchased from a local meteorite dealer in Erfoud, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Brownish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is a R-type breccia composed of light colored lithic type 6 fragments and dark impact melt clasts set into a slightly orange colored fine-grained type 3 groundmass with several chondrules and chondrule fragments being present. Olivine is the dominant mineral phase in all lithologies and particular Fe-rich in type 6 clasts. Minor phases include albitic feldspar, augite, chromite, pentlandite, and pyrrhotite. FeNi metal is virtually absent. Geochemistry: type 3 lithology: olivine: Fa27.4±12.8 (Fa7.9-37.9, n=23); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs15.5±6.9Wo1.1±0.6 (Fs6.7-25.7Wo0.5-2.6, n=16); type 6 lithology: olivine: 38.9±0.4, n=10; low-Ca pyroxene: Fs29.3±0.1Wo1.7±0.1, n=2; Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.4±0.2Wo45.8±0.3, n=3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
