Northwest Africa 14221 (NWA 14221) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R4) History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania in 2021. Physical characteristics: Grayish rock largely covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a dark grayish interior, appears unbrecciated and is composed of distinct chondrules (mean diameter about 400 μm) set in a fine grained matrix dominated by ferroan olivine. Some low-Ca pyroxene in chondrules is compositionally unequilibrated. More minor phases include Ca-pyroxene, sodic plagioclase, pentlandite, and ilmenite; no metal has been detected. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa37.8±0.1 (Fa37.6-38.1, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs19.0±7.1Wo0.6±0.03 (Fs9.8-28.8Wo0.5-0.6, n=10); Ca-pyroxene: Fs10.2±0.7Wo45.4±1.9 (Fs9.6-12.2Wo40.0-46.4, n=9); feldspar: An8.0-11.7Ab83.7-87.2Or2.7-5.5, n=6 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
