Northwest Africa 13756 (NWA 13756) Niger Purchased: 2020 Feb Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R4) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in February 2020 from dealer in Niger. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Distinct, relatively well-equilibrated chondrules (some with rare magnesian olivine cores) plus Type 4 lithic clasts are set in a fine grained matrix (orange-brown in thin section). Both sodic and calcic plagioclase are present, in addition to accessory ilmenite, aluminous Ti-bearing chromite, altered troilite and rare altered FeNi sulfide. Metal is absent. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa39.3±0.7, range Fa38.0-40.2, N = 6), magnesian olivine core (Fa4.4), augite (Fs10.5±0.7Wo44.0±1.5, range Fs9.9-11.3Wo42.4-45.3, N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs3.2Wo0.8; Fs30.6Wo1.3; N = 2), aluminous low-Ca pyroxene (Fs10.8Wo3.9, Al2O3 = 14.1 wt.%). Classification: R4 chondrite breccia. Specimens: 32.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
