Northwest Africa 6145 (NWA 6145) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2009 Nov Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R5) History: Purchased from a Moroccan mineral dealer at the mineral show in Munich, Germany Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Equilibrated chondrite, consisting of chondrules and chondrule fragments set in a recrystallized matrix. Some shock veins are present. Chondrule sizes mostly between 300 and 500 µm, up to 1.5 mm. Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine composition Fa39.0±0.3 (38.4-39.4); n=20. Mean low-Ca pyroxene composition Fs30.5±0.3 Wo1.2±0.1 (Fs30.1-30.9 Wo1.0-1.4); n=5. Mean Ca-pyroxene composition Fs11.6±0.3 Wo44.6±0.2 (Fs11.2-12.1 Wo44.2-44.9); n=10. Accessories are chromite, troilite and pentlandite; no metal was found. Classification: R chondrite based on mineral chemistry. Petrologic type 5, based on equilibrated olivine and pyroxene and well-preserved chondrules. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
