Ramlat Fasad 578 19°07.537’N, 53°38.179’E Zufar, Oman Find: 08 Feb 2017 Classification: Relict meteorite (Relict iron) History: Found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Many dark black angular to rounded fragments distributed over ~40 × 25 m. Strongly magnetic. Petrography: Lamellar mixture of iron oxides and -hydroxides with attached oxide-cemented dune sand. Geochemistry: Bulk analysis (Activation laboratories, INAA) Fe = 57.3, Ni = 4.04, Co = 0.24 (all wt%); Cr = 33, Cu = 44, Ga = 49, Ge = 210, Ir = 1.37, Pt = 14.2, Au = 0.37 (all μg/g). Classification: Relict iron meteorite. Element concentrations affected by terrestrial weathering, resembling IIAB. Specimens: 67.6 g at NMBE. Main mass: MHTO. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
