Ramlat Fasad 580 19°07.247’N, 53°36.426’E Zufar, Oman Find: 09 Feb 2017 Classification: Relict meteorite (Relict iron) History: Found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Dark-brown sand-encrusted fragments, strongly magnetic. Petrography: Black iron oxides with dominant oxide-cemented dune sand. Geochemistry: Bulk analysis (Activation laboratories, INAA) Fe = 29.3, Ni = 0.97, Co = 0.08 (all wt%); Cr = 118, Cu <1, Ga = 3, Ge <10, Ir = 0.1, Pt <0.1, Au <0.01 (all μg/g). Bulk analysis by XRF Fe = 27.9±0.6, Ni = 0.90±0.27, Co <0.05 (all wt%, N = 3). Classification: Relict iron meteorite. Element concentrations affected by terrestrial weathering and dilution by adhering dune sand. Probably paired with Ramlat Fasad 579/581 Specimens: 5.58 g at NMBE.
