Writeup from MB 110:

Nagjir 002        23.750°N, 14.250°W

Rio de Oro, Western Sahara

Purchased: 2021 May

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict)

History: A single stone found by a camel shepherd about 9 km NE of El Uaara, Western Sahara, was purchased by Space Birds (France) in May 2021.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia containing some lithic eucrite clasts (exhibiting a variety of textures and grainsizes), but composed mainly of related crystalline debris plus minor (<10 vol.%) diogenitic orthopyroxene. Diverse types of clinopyroxene are present including zoned pigeonite and relatively ferroan low-Ca pyroxene and augite, as well as calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, low-Ti chromite, baddeleyite and troilite.

Geochemistry: Diogenitic orthopyroxene (Fs16.8Wo1.4, FeO/MnO = 26), pigeonite (cores 32.1-34.7Wo5.9-6.4, FeO/MnO = 29, N = 2; rims Fs54.9-55.7Wo5.6-6.4, FeO/MnO = 31-32 , N = 2), ferroan pigeonite (Fs46.3-49.3Wo12.1-12.9, FeO/MnO = 27-31, N = 2), ferroan low-Ca pyroxene (Fs54.4Wo2.6, FeO/MnO = 35), ferroan subcalcic augite (Fs45.2Wo25.2, FeO/MnO = 31), ferroan augite (Fs58.9Wo35.9, FeO/MnO = 46), plagioclase (An81.6-93.1Or1.4-0.3, N = 4).

Classification: Eucrite (polymict breccia).

Specimens: 20.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Space Birds (France).
