Writeup from MB 108:

Northwest Africa 12417 (NWA 12417)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2018 Aug

Classification: Ureilite

History: Puchased in Rabat, Morocco, by Adam Aaronson in August 2018.

Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Protogranular aggregate of olivine (~75 vol.%) and pigeonite (~25 vol.%) with minor secondary calcite. Olivine exhibits reduced magnesian, Fe metal-bearing rims. We did not observe any graphite either optically or in BSE images (despite a search for it), and this specimen is not sufficiently hard to contain microdiamond.

Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa19.8-20.1; rim Fa6.4; N = 3), pigeonite (Fs16.6-16.7Wo9.7-9.6, N = 2), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs14.0Wo4.1).

Classification: Ureilite.

Specimens: Type specimen divided between UWB (9 g) and ROM (12 g). One polished thin section at UWB. Remainder with DGregory.
