Dhofar 2117 (Dho 2117) 19°24.007’N, 54°04.463’E Zufar, Oman Find: 19 Jan 2018 Classification: Ureilite History: A single meteorite was found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Fragment with ablated surface, regmaglypts and traces of fusion crust, 17x14x6 cm. Petrography: (J. Pape, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) The sample consist mainly of olivine with minor pigeonite both with slight preferred grain orientation and shows the characteristic ureilitic texture. Typical grain size is 0.8-2 mm. Olivine rims are strongly reduced (width 150-200 μm) and contain abundant tiny metal blebs that are largely oxidized due to terrestrial weathering. Carbon platelets (up to 2 mm length) consist mainly of diamond and minor microcrystalline graphite. Silicates are weakly shocked (S2). Weathering moderate (most iron oxidized, silicates are unaffected). Geochemistry: (J. Pape, NMBE) Olivine cores Fa21.1±0.9, Fe/Mn 42±3, Cr2O3 0.78±0.04 wt% (N = 16), reduced Ol rims have Fa>1.1. Pigeonite has Fs18.6±0.6Wo5.5±0.1, Cr2O3 1.09±0.04 wt% (N = 14). Classification: Based on texture, mineralogy and geochemistry this is an unbrecciated, monomict, ferroan ureilite.
