Writeup from MB 110:

Ramlat Fasad 528        19°12.499’N, 53°34.679’E

Zufar, Oman

Find: 02 Feb 2019

Classification: Ureilite

History: A single meteorite was found during a search for meteorites.

Physical characteristics: Strongly wind-ablated fragment, no fusion crust.

Petrography: (J. Pape, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) The sample consist mainly of olivine and pigeonite and shows the characteristic ureilitic texture. Reduction rims around olivines are ~50 μm wide. Silicates have a primary grain size of 0.8-1.5 mm. Pigeonite is partly recrystallized with many inclusions of glass and iron metal blebs. Carbon platelets (up to 1.5 mm length) consist of dominant diamond. Shock stage of silicates is medium (S3). Moderate weathering (iron is largely oxidized, silicates are unaffected).

Geochemistry: (J. Pape, NMBE): Olivine cores Fa21.0±0.6, Fe/Mn 44±2, Cr2O3 0.50±0.02 wt% (N = 19), reduced Ol rims have Fa>7.0. Pigeonite has Fs18.0±0.2Wo9.9±0.4, Cr2O3 1.20±0.06 wt% (N = 19). Glass has 1.0-5.0 wt% Na2O, 3.0-15.0 wt% Al2O3 (N = 3).

Classification: Based on texture, mineralogy and geochemistry this is an unbrecciated, monomict, ferroan ureilite.

Specimens: 3.417 g including one polished thin section at NMBE, main mass: MHTO
