Northwest Africa 14063 (NWA 14063)

Purchased: 2021 Mar

Classification: Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Many small grayish fragments without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite is a polymict breccia composed of up to 8 mm sized angular to sub-rounded lithic (gabbroic and basaltic) and mineral clasts set in fine-grained partly shock molten matrix that often shows flow textures. Minerals are predominantly calcic plagioclase, olivine, Ca-pyroxene, and low-Ca pyroxene. Minor phases include FeS, ilmenite, Ti-bearing chromite, and zircon.

Geochemistry: olivine: Fa34.9±2.9 (Fa31.6-38.4, FeO/MnO=104±13, n=21); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs29.5±2.7Wo3.8±1.0 (Fs26.2-34.2Wo2.4-5.9, FeO/MnO=59±6, n=18); Ca-pyroxene: Fs14.7±2.8Wo40.9±4.3 (Fs11.3-18.9Wo35.4-46.6, FeO/MnO=44±6, n=14); calcic plagioclase: An96.2±0.4 (An95.6-96.6, n=14)
