Northwest Africa 14140 (NWA 14140) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jan Classification: Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia) History: Purchased by Dr. David Gregory in January 2021 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Breccia composed predominantly of mineral clasts of anorthite and olivine plus minor pigeonite and rare low-Ca pyroxene in a fine grained matrix containing troilite and minor secondary barite. Some lithic clasts composed almost entirely of anorthite are present. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa21.9-41.1, FeO/MnO = 85-107, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs32.1Wo2.7, FeO/MnO = 52), pigeonite (Fs18.3-20.2Wo18.3-11.9, FeO/MnO = 45-51, N = 2), anorthite (An96.6-97.2Or0.1-0.0, N = 3). Classification: Lunar (feldspathic breccia). Specimens: 21.9 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with DGregory. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
