Northwest Africa 14761 (NWA 14761) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Fine grained breccia composed of numerous small mineral clasts of anorthite, olivine, low-Ca pyroxene, subcalcic augite and augite, plus some larger glass-bearing lithic clasts, set in a very fine grained, partly vesicular and partly glassy matrix containing ilmenite, baddeleyite, medium-Ti chromite and kamacite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.2-53.9, FeO/MnO = 89-100, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs18.4-32.8Wo3.3-4.2, FeO/MnO = 53-58, N = 3), subcalcic augite (Fs9.2Wo23.0, FeO/MnO = 47), augite (Fs17.0-24.5Wo36.0-32.2, FeO/MnO = 48-54, N = 2), anorthite (An95.5-96.6Or0.1, N = 3). Classification: Lunar (feldspathic breccia). Specimens: 13.27 g including one polished slice at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
