Northwest Africa 14969 (NWA 14969)

Purchased: 2022 Feb

Classification: Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia)

History: Purchased by Terry Boudreaux in February 2022 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL). Breccia composed of mineral grains of anorthite, olivine, pigeonite, subcalcic ferroaugite, aluminous subcalcic augite, augite and fayalite in a fine grained matrix containing taenite, troilite, Ti-chromite (some with Ti-rich rims) and ilmenite.

Geochemistry: Plagioclase (An81.1-95.2Or0.5-0.3, N = 3), olivine (Fa27.3-37.0, FeO/MnO = 80-104, N = 2), pigeonite (Fs27.2-37.8Wo6.2-15.0, FeO/MnO = 56-61, N = 3), subcalcic ferroaugite (Fs55.7Wo31.4, FeO/MnO = 74), aluminous subcalcic augite (Fs32.4Wo28.0, Al2O3 13.9 wt.%, TiO2 0.7 wt.%), augite (Fs16.3Wo41.5, FeO/MnO = 50), fayalite (Fa88.0, FeO/MnO = 86).

Classification: Lunar (feldspathic breccia).

Specimens: 23.3 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with Mr. T. Boudreaux.
