Northwest Africa 12606 (NWA 12606) Midelt region, Morocco Purchased: 2018 Classification: Ureilite History: Specimen is cataloged at the Royal Ontario Museum as M59776 (formerly CC2). Petrography: (I. Nicklin, ROM) Sample is primarily composed of olivine bearing reduction rims. Several large aggregates of olivine crystals, the largest measuring 10 by 5 mm, are set in a finer grained matrix of crystal fragments dominated by olivine with minor pyroxene. Approximate modal abundance: 90% olivine, 5% pyroxene, 5% graphite. Olivine shows undulose extinction. Geochemistry: Olivine: clast Fa17.5±3.2, FeO/MnO=35.6±8.8 (n=12), matrix Fa10.3±4.6, FeO/MnO=18.8±9.3 (n=11); Pyroxene: augite Fs3.1±0.6Wo34.4±7.6, FeO/MnO=9.5±1.9 (n=3); pigeonite Fs6.9±1.5Wo6.6±1.2, FeO/MnO = 22.3±4.3 (n=14) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
