Writeup from MB 110:
Ramlat Fasad 525 18°56.129’N, 53°17.212’E Zufar, Oman Find: 05 Feb 2018 Classification: Ureilite History: A complete individual was found during a search for meteorites. Physical characteristics: Rounded inidivual with adhering sand crust, wind ablated, no fusion crust. Petrography: (J. Pape, E. Gnos, B. Hofmann) The sample consist mainly of olivine and low-Ca pyroxene with rare augite inclusions. The sample is relatively fine-grained (~0.5-1 mm) and shows the characteristic ureilitic, equigranular texture, some low-Ca pyroxenes have poikilitic olivine inclusions. Silicates show low shock (S2). Olivine grains show gentle Fe-reduction in the rims (width 20-30 μm) with very minor Fe metal inclusions, partly oxidized due to weathering. Well crystallized graphite platelets (up to 0.6 mm length), no diamond was observed. Moderate weathering (most iron oxidized, silicates are unaffected). Geochemistry: (J. Pape, NMBE) Olivine cores Fa11.9±0.2, Fe/Mn 19±1, Cr2O3 0.57±0.03 wt% (N = 19), reduced Ol rims have Fa>2.7. Low-Ca pyroxene has Fs10.4±0.1Wo5.0±0.05, Cr2O3 1.03±0.02 wt% (N = 33), reduced Px rims have Wo>1.1. Augite has Fs6.3±0.0Wo37.6±0.1 (N = 2). Classification: Based on texture, mineralogy and geochemistry this is an unbrecciated, monomict and augite-bearing magnesian ureilite. Specimens: All at NMBE, including one polished thin section. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
