Northwest Africa 14222 (NWA 14222) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: Ureilite History: The meteorite was purchased from a group of meteorites hunters in Nouadhibou, Mauritania, in 2021. Physical characteristics: Many dark brownish fragments without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite is composed of mostly lath-shaped up to 1.5 mm long orthopyroxene and rounded to sub-rounded augite crystals, the latter often poicilitically enclosed in orthopyroxene. Orthopyroxene shows resorption textures and weak lamellar compositionally zoning. Augite and orthopyroxene display characteristic reduced rims in contact with FeNi-metal or graphite. The meteorite contains troilite and abundant graphite. No olivine present. Geochemistry: orthopyroxene: Fs18.8±0.3Wo4.5±0.1 (Fs18.4-19.2Wo4.3-4.7, n=12), contains 1.08±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 1.77±0.03 wt% Al2O3; reduced rims in orthopyroxene: Fs0.7-5.1Wo0.9-1.3; augite: Fs13.1±0.1Wo31.7±0.2 (Fs12.8-13.2Wo31.2-32.0, n=12), contains 1.81±0.05 wt% Cr2O3 and 2.68±0.04 wt% Al2O3; reduced rims in augite: Fs0.7-1.3Wo38.9-41.9 Classification: Ureilite, augite-bearing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
