Writeup from MB 110:
Northwest Africa 14274 (NWA 14274) Northwest Africa Purchased: 2017 Classification: Ureilite History: Purchased in Agadir, Morocco by Aziz Habibi in 2017 and subsequently acquired by Ziyao Wang in June 2021. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Extensively recrystallized and partially melted assemblage dominated by olivine (>90 vol.%) together with pigeonite, orthopyroxene and accessory altered kamacite, graphite, secondary calcite and gypsum. Olivine grains consist of very fine grained polycrystalline mosaics but retain reduced magnesian rims; pyroxene grains are not mosaicized but show some patchy textural features consistent with partial melting. Glasses of diverse composition (including Si-rich, NaMgAlSi-rich and FeSi-rich) are present. Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa15.2-22.2, N = 3; rims 12.0-13.0, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs5.0-14.2Wo5.6-10.6, N = 3), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs8.5-11.0Wo2.9-4.8, N = 3). Classification: Ureilite (dunitic, shock-melted). Specimens: 21.1 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
