Northwest Africa 14385 (NWA 14385)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Ureilite

History: Puchased by Nicholas Gessler in 2021 from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, Brown U.) Protogranular aggregate dominated by olivine (~80 vol.%) with subordinate clinopyroxene (both pigeonite and subcalcic augite). Olivine grains have reduced magnesian rims containing fine grained altered Fe metal and minor lawrencite. Accessory graphite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa21.2-22.3, N = 3; rims 3.7-13.4, N = 5), pigeonite (Fs7.7-18.1Wo5.7-12.2, N = 10), subcalcic augite (Fs7.8Wo23.8; Fs2.7-7.8Wo34.7-33.3; N = 3).

Classification: Ureilite.

Specimens: 25.8 g plus one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. N. Gessler.
