OPAG is NASA’s community-based forum designed to provide science input for planning and prioritizing outer planet exploration activities for the next several decades.

The OPAG meeting has been rescheduled from April 19–21 to June 14–15, 2022 at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol – National Mall in Washington D.C. To include as many participants as possible and considering the impact of COVID-19 on in-person attendance, components of the meeting will be available virtually.

The focus of this two-day meeting is to include updates from NASA HQ, updates on current missions, and aspects of the Decadal Survey that are relevant to OPAG.


Registration

Registration fees are not being collected for this meeting, but registration is required. Registration for in-person attendance will be available through May 31, 2022, and virtual attendance through June 15, 2022. Before the meeting, registered virtual attendees will receive an email from Houston Meeting Info with virtual connection information.


COVID-19 Protocols

Washington, D.C. has no COVID-19 mandates in place. At this time, wearing masks at the meeting is optional but highly encouraged. Hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks will be available at the meeting.

Reporting Positive Cases
Attendees who receive a positive test result during the 27th SBAG meeting are not allowed to enter the meeting venue and must immediately quarantine. These attendees are encouraged to share positive test results with a USRA/LPI HR representative: [email protected]. For contact tracing purposes, a list of close contacts without masking will be requested. All information will be considered HR confidential.

OPAG Meeting Participation Stipends

The OPAG Steering Committee is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of stipends for in-person and virtual attendance at the OPAG June 2022 hybrid meeting. Travel stipends for $1,000 aim to ensure active participation in OAPG by students and early-career researchers (less than ten years from Ph.D. serving in a non-tenured or equivalent position). Additionally, applications are welcome for support to ensure virtual participation, such as defraying costs for child or elder care.

Meeting Participation Stipend Criteria

  • Eligible applicants: students and early-career researchers (less than ten years from Ph.D. serving in a non-tenured or equivalent position)
  • Explain how you plan to participate in the OPAG meeting.
  • Explain how attending this meeting will benefit your career.
  • Explain how important receiving a stipend enables your in-person or virtual attendance.
  • Be able to receive income in the United States (stipends are considered income).
  • Civil servants and members of the military are not eligible for these stipends.
  • Stipends will be paid upon completion of the meeting.

Lightning Talk Session

OPAG will host a lightning talk session on the afternoon of June 14 (there is no poster session for this meeting). Talks can focus on research, mission concepts, technology developments, etc. If you have questions, contact Kate Craft ([email protected]) and Kunio Sayanagi ([email protected]).

Presentation Submission

In-Person Presenters

  • File name format: PresentationTime_LastName
  • Create a folder on your flash drive called “OPAGJune2022.”
  • Save your PowerPoint or PDF presentation to that folder.
  • Submisson deadline: Submit presentations to the AV technician in the session room no later than 20 minutes before the start of the session.

Remote Presenters

What to Expect During Oral Sessions and Lightning Talks

  • All presentations (in-person and remote) will be displayed and shared from the session room by the meeting organizer.
  • In-person presenters will use the session room presentation advancer to advance their slides.
  • Remote presenters will cue the meeting organizer to advance their slides.
  • All in-person presenters and commenters are required to use the session room microphones.
  • Remote presenters and the virtual audience will be able to raise their hands and request to be unmuted to present, make comments, and ask questions.
  • The virtual audience will only be able to see slides and hear audio from the room.

The OPAG meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol – National Mall, 550 C Street S.W., Washington, D.C. 20024.

The hotel is 3.7 miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), 30 miles from Dulles International Airport (IAD), and 34 miles from Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI).

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol – National Mall hotel for June 13–16, 2022, at a rate of $229 for single occupancy. Room occupancy taxes are currently 14.75%.
