Applications are reviewed and accepted as they are submitted; the deadline to apply for the workshop is 5:00 P.M. CDT on June 1, 2023. Stipends are available for those who are able to accept them.

The workshop includes a public engagement event on June 24 at the Moldaw–Zaffaroni Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula in East Palo Alto, CA.

June 24, 2023

  • Set-up: 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Event: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Clean-up, lunch, debrief: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Attire:
  • Please dress comfortably (for instance, jeans and t-shirts are welcome).
  • Please bring a jacket or light sweater in case the meeting room is chilly.
  • Mountain View CA climate is moderate in June, with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50’s.
To bring:

Laptops or tablets are not needed for any of the discussions or activities. Cameras and cell phones are welcome.

Parking and Carpooling:
  • The SETI Institute (SI) has plenty of on-site parking.
  • If you would like to carpool, please consider reaching out to other attendees by email, phone, or using the Slack channel.
Airports:
  • Please make your travel arrangements fully refundable (or ensure you will be able to use the credits yourself).
  • The nearest airport is San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC); it’s about a 15-minute drive to SI.
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is about a 30-minute drive to SI.
  • Oakland International Airport (OAK) is about a 44-minute drive to SI.
Hotels:
  • Please make your travel arrangements fully refundable (or ensure you will be able to use the credits yourself).
  • There are a variety of hotels in the Sunnyvale/ Mountain View area, which has a higher costs than many other parts of the country.
  • Larkspur Landing in Sunnyvale may be able to provide shuttle service to and from the SETI Institute (call to confirm).
  • NASA employes may want to consider the NASA Ames Lodge.
  • Best Western in Sunnyvale and Holiday Inn Express have been described as reasonable and Hampton Inn in Mountain View and Ramada Inn in Mountain View are currently offering reasonable rates for June 22 and 23.
  • If you would like to share a room, please consider reaching out to other attendees by email, phone, or using the Slack channel.
COVID Precautions:
  • All persons entering SETI Institute facilities are required to either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or wear a mask in public areas and meetings.
  • If traveling, please consider taking a precautionary COVID test 24 hours before traveling to Mountain View to avoid needing to quarantine after you arrive.
  • If you are not feeling well or have any COVID symptoms, please take a COVID test before coming to the workshop.
  • If you are COVID positive, please cancel your plans to attend this workshop; we will put you at the top of the list to attend future workshops.
  • Hand sanitizer, masks, and COVID rapid tests will be available at the workshop.
