Announcing the Next Exciting Lunar Workshop

4th International Workshop on Lunar Science Applications

Thank you

On behalf of all who benefit from your participation in LCW 3 (The 3rd International Workshop on LunarCubes) and LSA 3 (The 3rd International Workshop on Lunar Science and Technology Applications) and to all who played a part in making the event a success, thank you! Thanks for showing up and contributing your expertise, experience and excitement about exploring Deep Space.

A special thanks to our sponsors, Flexure Engineering and Cryogenic Society of America, for their continued support. And a warm welcome to our community and thanks to our new sponsor Moon Express and exhibitor Kartago.

For those of you who missed the opportunity to connect and collaborate with our amazing presenters and audience members, we hope you will join us for next year’s events:

4th International Workshop on Lunar and Planetary Compact and Cryogenic Science and Technology Applications (LSA 4) ~ April 8-11, 2014 ~ Cocoa Beach, FL.

4th International Workshop on LunarCubes (LCW 4) ~ Fall 2014 ~ Palo Alto, CA.

First, I’ll present the latest about LSA 4. Later in this email I’ll share updates about the 3rd International Workshop on LunarCubes (LCW 3) that took place November 10-13 in Palo Alto, CA.

4th International Workshop on Lunar Science Applications (LSA 4) April 2014, outside NASA KSC

LSA now stands for Lunar Science Applications with this year’s focus on Compact and Cryogenic Science and Technology Applications. Our previous focus on Lunar Superconductor Applications has been woven into a larger context per requests from you, our community.

So this year’s official title is 4th International Workshop on Compact and Cryogenic Science and Technology Applications (LSA 4.)

LSA 4 will be a crossroads for scientist, engineers and entrepreneurs who are building and flying Lunar missions now.

After 30 years of neglect, the Moon is becoming a very active and crowded place. Russia, China and the United States currently plan to have active lander \ rover missions on the Lunar surface in 2017-18. This level of activity supports many opportunities for secondary payloads and LunarCube missions to the surface of the Moon and throughout Cislunar space with rides provided by smaller national and private programs such as the Google Lunar X Prize teams.

The Lunar Workshops series as a whole are designed to foster collaborative work among scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs to solve the challenges of building hardware, software, businesses and collaborative communities involved in going back to the Moon and beyond.

Note to civil servants: You may use the conference number provided by the NCTS system to participate, register, and travel to LSA4. The NCTS conference number is 18953-14. NASA civil servants can also find it at https://ncts.nasa.gov/user/index.cfm, by searching on the dates or location for the workshop. Please note: THIS (NCTS) IS A CONFERENCE NUMBER, NOT A TRAINING NUMBER. NASA centers may or may not have funds available to support this workshop as ‘training’, and the processes for getting approval for training varies from center to center.

All our workshops support on-site and remote oral presentations and audience participation. This means you can present, observe presentations and participate in Q&A sessions and our interactive Design Challenges whether you’re in your room or ours.

Planning to stay at the hotel? Please visit the hotel’s event reservation page to make your reservations. Note: Deadline for early registration for hotel rooms at group rate is March 9, 2014.

As a part of the series, LSA 4 will bring together world-class researchers and experts to deliver progress updates on the latest discoveries and opportunities in Lunar Science. The program will include technical presentations on lander and rover technology and cryogenic planetary science and processes. Expert presenters will discuss the latest results from the LRO (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter), the LCROSS (Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite) and the LADEE (Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer) programs. Members of the Astrobotic, MoonExpress, Luna, and Resource Prospector teams will provide updates on the progress of their missions. The list of topics planned demonstrates the high level of expertise at the conference:

LSA 4 is the anchor event for a week of activities in and around the Kennedy Space Center including the 43rd Space Congress sponsored by Canaveral Council of Technical Societies (CCTS), Yuri’s Night, tours of local space facilities, and a banquet co-sponsored by the Missile, Space and Range Pioneers, a member of CCTS.

Our new LSA 4 website is up now up. Visit the site to learn more, to submit abstracts for doing an oral or poster presentation, and to register. You’ll be hearing more about this exciting lineup of events shortly as we’re certain you’ll want to participate to the fullest extent that matches your needs.

Community Networking Forms

Thanks to all who provided great input about what you’re working on and what you need next on the Community Networking Forms (WINN and 3 Questions.)

Those who had made requests on either form and those who filled out See Me Cards have received individual emails connecting you to each other. We are also organizing your input based on areas of interest and will communicate with those of you who share the same interests.

Requesting Your Feedback About LCW 3

For those of you who attended in person or via the Internet, we want to hear from you – what you liked, what you didn’t like, and what you would do differently next time.

We’ve already used feedback we got from people at the event to make changes to our next event, LSA 4. We’ll have fewer presenters and leave more time for networking and collaborative interactions.

We’d like to hear from the rest of you who participated in LCW 3. What else would you like us to know? Click on this link and take a few minutes to complete our simple online Event Evaluation Form.

Remember to Save These Dates for LSA 4

The 4th International Workshop on Lunar and Planetary Compact and Cryogenic Science and Technology Applications will be April 8-11, 2014 in Cocoa Beach, FL.

We hope you join us in person for the great opportunities to learn from, contribute to, and network with to the best, the brightest and the most passionate. Yes, you will have the option to present and participate via the Internet as we have in the past. To learn more and to register, visit www.LSAworkshops.com.

From all of us with Flexure Engineering and Select Investor, may we all join together in 2014 to contribute to the US as a leader in the International Space Industry.

Best wishes,
