School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University Seeks Postdoctoral Scholar

Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position to work in collaboration with Steve Desch and Linda Elkins-Tanton on the early evolution of volatiles in terrestrial planets, especially their interactions with both their protoplanetary disks and with their planets’ magma oceans. This research requires use and adaptation of an existing computer code such as FLASH for modeling the hydrodynamics of the atmosphere, and a second existing code addressing magma oceans and their solidification.

More information about the department can be found here: http://sese.asu.edu/

The initial appointment is for one year with subsequent annual renewal for up to two additional years contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the university, and availability of resources. The start date is negotiable. This position comes with a competitive salary, funding for travel, moving expenses, and full health insurance coverage.  Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in geophysics, planetary science, or closely related field by the start date, and a background in either astrophysical or geophysical numerical modeling. Desired qualifications include a background in both astrophysical and geophysical numerical modeling, and familiarity with geochemical constraints. Experience running numerical codes, including hydrodynamic codes, at high performance computing facilities is strongly desired.

To apply, please submit a single PDF document to [email protected] incorporating the following:
* A cover letter
* Contact information for three references
* A curriculum vitae with a publication list
* A statement of past research accomplishments and future research goals (three pages or less)

Complete applications will be reviewed beginning October 15, 2015. Complete applications received after this date are still welcome and will be reviewed every two weeks until the search is closed. Early expressions of interest and inquiries can be sent directly to Prof. Elkins-Tanton or Prof. Desch. A background check is required for employment.
