PLANETARY SCIENCES AND METEORITE IMPACTS SESSION
August 27 – September 4, 2016
Capetown, South Africa

With the recent increase in the exploration of the planets and solar system bodies, Planetary Geoscience is one of the fastest-growing branches of the geosciences. Different topics of research are covered, among others: study of extraterrestrial matter (e.g. meteorites and their impact processes), research and exploration of other planets and moons (e.g. Mars, Europa, Titan), the characterization of terrestrial analogues (e.g. extreme environments, Río Tinto, Antarctica) and also some specific palaeoenvironmental and habitability studies linking geo- and biomarkers for the search for life beyond Earth. The exploration forand discovery of exoplanets is another fast-developing branch of Planetary Geoscience. Ground-breaking research in the evolution of planets, solar-system bodies and exoplanets is delivering very interesting results. Symposia and papers covering all aspects of the recent advances in this field of the geosciences are invited.
