Sample Handling Training Opportunities: Request for Information

Dear Colleague:

genesistray

Do you work with samples or planetary materials, or are you interested in working with them? On this simple website, please tell us which sorts of information or techniques would facilitate your work, and we will try to help:

The ARES division of NASA JSC and the Lunar and Planetary Institute will host a series of hands-on training sessions to share their expertise with extraterrestrial samples, including: curalunarlab110tion, handling, analyses, and informatics. These extraterrestrial materials are available to qualified researchers, and our goal is to increase the community’s use of them by teaching how they are acquired, handled, and curated, and some advanced methods for their analysis.

The goal of these trainings is to enhance planetary science by increasing the community’s understanding, use, and access to the planetary materials curated and held at the ARES division of Johnson Space Center.  These extraterrestrial materials include Apollo lunar samples, Hayabusa asteroid particles, cosmic dust collected in the stratosphere, Stardust comet samples, Genesis samples of solar wind, space-exposed hardware, some Luna lunar samples, and meteorites collected in Antarctica by the ANSMET expeditions.

Thank you.

Allan Treiman, LPI
Dave Draper, JSC
