After a nearly two-year space chase, NASA’s OSIRIS-REx probe finally had its asteroid target, Bennu, in sight on August 17, 2018. On September 11, 2018, the probe started its first science observations to search for dust plumes around Bennu, according to the mission’s Principal Investigator, Dante Lauretta. OSIRIS-REx is NASA’s first mission to visit a near-Earth asteroid, and the probe will survey the surface, collect a sample, and deliver it safely back to Earth.
