LPI Releases a Series of Earth Day Posters Inspired by Apollo

Earth Day will mark its 50th anniversary on April 22, 2020 with the first Digital Earth Day, a global digital mobilization to diversify, educate, and activate the environmental movement worldwide. The Lunar and Planetary Institute has released a series of four Earth Day posters in advance of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Like Earth Day, these posters are inspired by Apollo-era, as well as modern, lunar exploration.

The “Earthrise” photograph taken by Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders became the icon of the earliest stages of the environmental movement by offering a new perspective of Earth. The Apollo 8 image, and subsequent images of Earth captured by the first lunar explorers, show our planet hanging in space as a singular home for all humanity. You can find the Earth Day Posters by visiting the Apollo 50: LPI Public Engagement Resources on the LPI website.
