Culturally Inclusive Planetary Engagement Workshop

Planetary scientists and astrobiologists are invited to apply to attend a Culturally Inclusive Planetary Engagement professional development workshop facilitated by the Planetary Resources and Content Heroes (ReaCH) program.

The next two workshops will take place August 17–19, 2023, at the Pérez Art Museum – Miami, Miami, FL (application deadline is July 15) and September 21–23, 2023 at the American Museum of Natural History (application deadline is September 1).

During the workshops, participants team up with informal educators to:

  • Explore the importance of building equitable partnerships with organizations, subject matter experts, and informal educators serving Black and Latinx audiences
  • Learn evidence-based culturally relevant authentic approaches to nurture connections with Black and Latinx individuals
  • Practice planetary science engagement approaches through a culturally inclusive lens

In addition, participants lead hands-on activities during a co-designed public engagement event following the workshop held in collaboration with a local youth-serving organization. The event allows workshop participants the opportunity to practice engagement strategies discussed in the workshop.

Space is limited in each workshop to 10 scientists and 10 informal educators. Stipends are available for participants able to accept them. More information, including links to applications, is available online at
