The summit caldera of Olympus Mons comprises several major collapse features that indicate a protracted period of activity at the summit. Parts of the caldera floor possess a complicated sequence of graben and wrinkle ridges that suggest a complex tectonic history. The lowest parts of the floor are over 4 kilometers below the rim of the caldera (slide #37). Viking Orbiter 890A68. Right click here to download a high-resolution version of the image (2.95 MB) |
